How To Perform

If you’d like to play at The Listening Room it really couldn’t be much easier. Simply turn up on a Sunday evening by 7:45pm at the latest. Find the compere … usually it’s the person with a notepad and pen, or maybe the person shifting tables and chairs away from the stage area (well, the fireplace). If in doubt, look for someone carrying a musical instrument and ask them who’s in charge.
Your slot will normally be two songs (or ten minutes, whichever is less) long, though sometimes exceptions can be made - one song each if very busy, three or more if unusually quiet.
When you arrange your slot with the compere you will not be given an exact time to play; the order of slots is picked randomly. This is partly to encourage people to stay in the bar and enjoy the other acts!
Please make sure that you are ready to play at any time between 8 and 8:45pm. If you are using your own guitar or other instrument, please make sure that it is tuned and ideally out of its case ready to play before you are called.
It’s worth reminding you again that The Listening Room is 100% acoustic. We do our best to ask the audience and other customers to be as quiet as possible during performances, but it’s usually quite a busy bar and we can’t always guarantee that there won’t be some (or occasionally a fair bit of) background noise. It’s a good idea to have one or two louder songs up your sleeve just in case!
